- Full-time update Portsmouth v Arsenal FA Premier Reserve League Fratton Park Tuesday November 11, 2003, kick-off: 7pm PORTSMOUTH 1 Burchill 9 ARSENAL 1 Owusu-Abeyie 8 Arsenal's reserves had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth despite dominating much of the game at Fratton Park. With Eddie Niedzwiecki away on international duty with Wales, Pat Rice took the reins for Tuesday night's game and he saw his young side take the lead after just eight minutes. Ryan Smith, a constant threat to the Pompey defence with his pace, played in Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and the Dutch teenager made no mistake. However, the home side were level within a minute. Arsenal failed to clear and Mark Burchill made them pay by firing past Rami Shaaban. The Arsenal goalkeeper was making his second appearance for the reserves since returning from an 11-month lay-off, but he had little to do as the Gunners took control. The visitors dominated possession with Owusu-Abeyie, Smith and Spanish midfielder Francesc Fabregas all to the fore, but too often Arsenal's final ball was lacking. The Gunners had a couple of late chances, notably when Owusu-Abeyie beat four opponents, but Pompey kept Arsenal at bay and held on for a point.
