Tony Adams has ruled out raiding his former club Arsenal for some high-class loan signings to help drag Wycombe out of trouble this season.
The new Chairboys manager was handed a transfer budget which could rise to £150,000 by Wycombe chairman Ivor Beeks.
But the 37-year-old former England captain is content to work with his current squad to get Wycombe off the bottom of Division Two.
He said: "It's a different skill from getting £10million to spend. I prefer it. You've got to work with limited resources.
"I'm not going to put £50,000 into someone else's pocket who's only going to be down here for three months. If the boys who are here do the business for me they will be rewarded."
Adams signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Wycombe and his transfer kitty was boosted by a £70,000 donation made possible by club sponsors loans.co.uk.
But he is realistic enough to know that such meagre resources rule out an influx of famous faces to the Causeway Stadium, and will concentrate instead on fortifying one of the division's most porous defences.
He said: "We've conceded a lot of goals this season and I'm going to have to do a bit around that area.
"I've been instructed they like to be entertained here, and we've got a conflict straightaway because I like winning, but hopefully we can do both."
Wycombe could use some of the leadership and organisational skills Adams showed at the heart of Arsenal's rearguard on the pitch, but he is adamant his playing days are over.
Adams will be assisted by John Gorman, who was overlooked for the top job after just over a month as caretaker manager, and the Scot will continue to take training this week ahead of an FA Cup tie with Swindon.
Adams said: "John will take training. My role is observation. My first job was to try to get John to stay on and give me his time and experience.
"I thought it was important he give me all the help I need. I've worked with him at England level and he always has a smile on his face. He's a decent individual."
