PARIS (AP)— Sylvain Wiltord said in an interview published Friday that he wants to start playing as well for English Premier League side Arsenal as he does for the French national team.
"I think I'm a bit more liberated with the France team. I'm not so daring with Arsenal, perhaps I could do better," France Football magazine quoted Wiltord as saying.
"I think about this a lot and tell myself I'd like to have the same success with my club that I have with the national team," Wiltord added.
Since joining Arsenal from Bordeaux in 2000, Wiltord has scored 31 league goals in 101 matches. He has a healthier strike rate for France with 20 goals in 58 matches, including four in his last four appearances.
"Maybe with the French team I feel less under pressure," he added. "I feel more at ease with the set-up."
Wiltord's Arsenal contract expires in June 2004. Unlike other French stars in the team like Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira, he has yet to sign an extension.
But Wiltord insists he wants to stay at the north London club, provided it offers him the right terms.
"I've always said I wanted to stay at Arsenal, now I don't know what will happen. We'll see in January," he said. "But there are not many European clubs who can offer me what Arsenal does."
"If Arsenal offer me another two years, this will be a big vote of confidence for me," Wiltord added.
++++++
"More @ ease in the French team & not so with AFC" eh, get a life & prove yourself FFS.
"Offered the right terms" eh, terms are ...PERFORM OR FUCK OFF.
"But there are not many European clubs who can offer me what Arsenal does" eh, Like pay through the nose for running in circles.
"We'll see in January" eh, YES we will see another player @ THOF
