Turkish warplanes have attacked some 70 Kurdish rebel targets in northern Iraq, the Turkish military says. Turkey has launched several air raids since mid-December It says the raid began at 0100 GMT and its planes returned safely after successfully completing the mission. Kurdish officials say several border villages were bombed. There are no reports yet of casualties or damage. Turkey has carried out at least four cross-border air strikes since last December, against separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) guerrillas. Turkey says its troops killed 10 PKK rebels in south-east Turkey on Sunday. 'Not doing enough' The Turkish planes on Monday bombed several areas in Sidakan district, including Khnera and Khwakurk, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) said on its website, quoting a local PUK official. Turkey blames the PKK for launching attacks on Turkey from bases in Iraq. Ankara approved cross-border raids on PKK bases in October, saying the Iraqi government and its US backers were not doing enough to halt rebel attacks. The US backs Turkish operations against the PKK and has agreed to share intelligence with Ankara. The PKK - which is designated a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the US and the EU - is thought to have about 3,000 rebels based in Iraq. For decades, it has been fighting for a Kurdish homeland separate from Turkey. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7225875.stm
