David Trezeguet has become the third Serie A based player this week to be linked with a move to Barcelona. Milan’s Manuel Rui Costa was associated with a Nou Camp switch on Monday, his teammate Pippo Inzaghi was named on Tuesday and now it is the turn of the Juventus player. Barca President Joan Laporta is reportedly keen on signing a recognised goalscorer who can guarantee his club over 20 goals in a season. Trezeguet’s future in Turin has been the subject of speculation for some time as his contract expires in 2005. The French international has often stated that he wants to stay at the Delle Alpi but only in return for an increased salary. That seems to be the major stumbling block even if the Bianconeri hinted last month that an agreement will be reached. Barca are allegedly ready to offer around £22m, a fee that could tempt the Italian champions to sell. After all, this is a club that released Zinedine Zidane to Real Madrid for £48m and Inzaghi to Milan for £23m. In other transfer news, Chelsea could intercept Inter’s proposed summer swoop for Esteban Cambiasso. The Argentine is set to leave Real Madrid on a free transfer and the Premiership outfit may offer the midfielder a better financial package.
