GENOA, January 11 (Serie A) - Pavel Nedved inspired Juventus to a 2-1 win at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium to secure a result that ended Sampdoria`s eight-game unbeaten run.
Mauro Camoranesi put the Serie A champions in front midway through the first-half, heading in Nedved`s far post cross.
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon gifted Francesco Flachi an equaliser four minutes after half-time, but a Nedved back-heel set up Antonio Conte, who sealed the points with a low cross shot on 64 minutes.
The win keeps Marcello Lippi's side, who were without Barcelona-bound midfielder Edgar Davids, in touch with leaders Roma and AC Milan, who both won.
Dutchman Davids is expected to join the Catalan club on-loan for the remaining six months of his Juventus contract, but on this evidence, they are clearly capable of mounting a title challenge without him.
David Trezeguet had the Turin giants` first chance - the French striker opting for subtlety rather than power after a Camoranesi cross, but his shot looping just over Francesco Antonioli`s cross-bar.
But Camoranesi gave the visitors the lead in the 24th minute after Nedved robbed former Juve man Cristian Zenoni, and picked out the diminutive Italian international, who scored with a diving header.
The Sampdoria players were furious that the referee saw nothing wrong with Nedved`s initial challenge on Zenoni, but their protests fell on deaf ears.
That added spice to an already frenetic encounter and Trezeguet was thwarted by Antonioli, who was equal to his low drive.
Flachi screwed a shot wide just after the break, before Juve captain Alessandro Del Piero spurned a glorious chance to put his side out of sight.
Czech winger Nedved, who was carrying on where he left off in scoring the only goal to beat Perugia in midweek, found Del Piero un-marked at the far post, but the 58-capped Italian international contrived to miss from just two yards out.
And Flachi increased the pressure on the visitors with a 56th minute leveller.
The 28-year-old hauled Walter Novellino's side level after Buffon palmed a Sergio Volpi cross straight onto his head, giving the former Fiorentina man an easy task in scoring his sixth goal in six games.
But Del Piero`s blushes were saved just eight minutes later and Nedved was involved again.
Having stretched the defence moments earlier, the European Footballer of the Year, fed by Camoranesi, made space for Conte with an exquisite backheel and the 34-year-old rifled an emphatic finish into the far corner of Antonioli`s goal.
The home side piled on the pressure as the game wore on, but the Juve defence was more than equal to everything thrown at it.
Buffon made up for his earlier blunder by brilliantly keeping out an injury-time Flachi header that ensured his side left Genoa with all three points.
