Barcelona President Joan Laporta and his advisors are currently in Turin to finalise Edgar Davids’ move to Spain. Laporta had confirmed in the last few days that he was in negotiations with Juventus to take the Dutchman on a six-month loan deal. That switch is now imminent after Laporta and three club directors flew in to the northern city to discuss the details. “We must now speak with the player and agree terms with him,” revealed director of sport Begiristai. “The rest depends on Edgar now.” Davids will be out of contract with the Bianconeri at the end of the season, but the club has banned him from going out on loan to another Italian outfit. There was a chance of a loan spell at Arsenal or Chelsea, but he will hook up with fellow Dutchman Frank Rijkaard at the Nou Camp. Whether he will stay on in Spain after June – when he will be a free agent – is yet to be decided. It was until now reported that Davids would accept a move to Inter for the 2004-05 campaign.
