Juventus remain confident that David Trezeguet will pen a contract extension despite speculation the Frenchman is ready to quit the Italian champions. Trezeguet's present deal expires in June 2005 and the Turin giants are determined to retain the prolific striker's services. The 26-year-old is an integral figure for Juve, who have opened discussions to prolong his stay at Stadio Delle Alpi. But the stumbling block appears to be Trezeguet's demand to be given parity with the remainder of Juve's star players in terms of wages. The former Monaco ace is holding out for a substantial salary increase to ink a fresh contract, otherwise he is prepared to sit out his deal according to French sources. Juve's general manager Luciano Moggi, though, is refusing to concede defeat in his quest to persuade Trezeguet to stay. "We won't give up on the French player," Moggi told Gazzetta. "Some people say he will leave? "I say the opposite. Trezeguet will sign with our conditions." Chelsea and Barcelona are believed to be monitoring the situation closely and could be prepared to bid €20 million at the end of the season if there is no compromise.
