news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4165604.stmEngland will play Argentina in a friendly in Geneva on 12 November after both teams secured their places at next year's World Cup in Germany. The date was confirmed when England reached the finals on Saturday - ruling out the need for a play-off, which may have taken place on that date. Argentina's Football Association chose Geneva as the venue because many of their squad are Europe-based. England beat Argentina 1-0 when the teams last met - in the 2002 World Cup. The rivalry between the countries goes back years, first hitting the headlines with England's stormy win at Wembley in the 1966 World Cup quarter-finals. Since then, Argentina have beaten England with Diego Maradona's notorious Hand of God goal at the 1986 Mexico World Cup and on penalties in St Etienne at the 1998 tournament in France.
