Sven Goran Eriksson wants one of his current coaches - Steve McClaren, Sammy Lee or Peter Taylor to succeed him.
Eriksson backs claims that an Englishman should take charge of The Three Lions once he has departed - and he hopes one of his own charges will be given the role by the Football Association.
"When I took the job four and-a-half years ago I was asked by the FA to work with two or three English coaches who in the future could take over.
"I still work with these three people in Peter Taylor, Steve McClaren and Sammy Lee.
"How the FA think about which one will take over I don't know but I would say those three will definitely be in the window.
"The idea is good. It means Peter, Steve and Sammy get experience, much more than they would at their clubs. Experience is everything."
While Sven was in the mood to talk about his successor, Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick was not.
"It would be disrespectful to Sven to discuss successors now but the key thing would be to find the best man," said Barwick.
"If he's English then so be it."
Hull and England Under-21 boss Taylor was understandably pleased to be put forward as a future England boss by Eriksson.
"It's very flattering and it was nice of Sven to say that but I'll have to be polite and say it's not right to talk about successors," he said.
"It's very nice for me though in that, if I'm getting mentioned, it means Hull and the Under-21s haven't been doing badly."
Taylor will be used by Eriksson as a scout if, as expected, England secure their place at Germany 2006 over the coming days.
"If we qualify, I would hope to have Peter with us as a scout," said the Swede.
