Juve replies in the best way to the present difficulties: in the last day of Group D, the Lippi’s team earns the first place, defeating Greeks of Olympiacos for 7-0. It’s a great day for forwards: double by Trezeguer, goals by Miccoli, Maresca, Di Vaio, Del Piero and Zalayeta.
On Friday there will be the draw for the next round: being first in its group, bianconeri won’t meet other first ranked teams, nor Italian teams (Ac Milan) nor Real Sociedad, being the Spaniard club in the same group of biaconeri. The Champions League will be back in February.
After three defeats in a row, for the match against the Greeks, Lippi makes many changes in comparison with the team which played last Saturday in Rome: Chimenti is the goalie, defence with Birindelli, Iuliano, Montero and Pessotto (300th match with Juve), midfield with Zalayeta, Tudor, Conte and Maresca, while Miccoli and Trezeguet are the forwards.
Olympiakos starts well and Chimenti has to be careful on a Djordjevic’s shot but at 14’ Juventus goes ahead: cross by Maresca and Trezeguet nets from close. Few minutes later here’s the second goal for bianconeri: Miccoli receives and scores with a perfect left-foot shoot.
At 25’ the third bianconero goal: Miccoli receives on the left and crosses for the Trezeguet’s perfect shot.
At 27’ here’s Juventus’ fourth goal: launch by Maresca for Miccoli, whose shot is deflected by Eleftheropoulos but Maresca himself is in the right place for picking up the ball and scoring.
In the second half there are many chances for both teams but only Juventus succeeds in finding the right way for the goal.
The fifth goal for Juventus is scored at 63’ by Di Vaio, who gets in for the injured Trezeguet: the striker receives a cross from Miccoli and beats Eleftheropoulos with a perfect left-foot shot.
At 21’ Del Piero gets in for Miccoli and scores straight away: good action on the left by Di Vaio and cross in the middle for “Pinturicchio”, who controls and scores with a powerful shot.
With ten minutes left to play it comes also the seventh and final goal: corner by Maresca and great header by Zalayeta.
