Juventus set a Champions League record with a 7-0 drubbing of Olympiakos last night that assured them top spot in Group D.
The result was the biggest winning margin in Champions League history and meant the Greeks finished bottom of the group, failing to qualify for the UEFA Cup spot.
David Trezeguet put Juventus on their way in the 14th minute with a simple tap-in and Fabrizio Miccoli doubled the advantage five minutes later with a well-worked left-foot finish. The game was over in the 25th minute when Trezeguet converted a pass from Miccoli and the little striker had a hand in Enzo Maresca's goal which made it 4-0 three minutes later.
Second-half substitutes Marco Di Vaio and Alessandro Del Piero added to the tally after the break as the Italian champions hammered home their superiority before Marcelo Zalayeta set the record with a 79th-minute header.
In the same group, Real Sociedad clinched a place in the second phase with a 1-1 draw at home to Galatasaray.
Second-half goals from substitute Albert Luque and Walter Pandiani ensured Deportivo La Coruna a place in the knockout stage, despite a 3-2 defeat by PSV Eindhoven.
Strikes from John de Jong in the 14th minute and Arjen Robben just after half-time had given PSV hopes of qualifying but these faded when Luque's 58th- minute free kick spun into the bottom corner of Ronald Waterreus's net.
Because of the league's head-to-head results rule, Guus Hiddink's side then needed to win by three clear goals and that task proved too tough.
