Platt has been England Under-21 coach since succeeding Howard Wilkinson in July 2001. A Football Association spokesman told the governing body's website: "The FA is grateful for David's efforts in developing players in the Under-21s." He added: "David's contribution as a former England player and captain should not be forgotten." Platt's record as Under-21 coach was 12 wins in 26 matches with six draws and eight defeats, and in October, his team failed to qualify for the European Championship However, Platt will remain as part of England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson's scouting set-up in Portugal for Euro 2004. And Eriksson said: "I am delighted that David has agreed to stay on until after the Euro 2004 championships. He will play an important role in our scouting network."
