Liverpool star Steven Gerrard has revealed it would be massive honour if he was to be handed the England captaincy for this week's friendly with Sweden.
The inspirational midfielder is in line to lead out England in Gothenburg after David Beckham and England vice-captain Michael Owen pulled out of the game through injury.
Gerrard, who took over as Liverpool captain from Sami Hyypia earlier this season, was remaining coy about getting the England captaincy, but admitted he was flattered to be linked with the role - with Gareth Southtage and John Terry also believed to be under consideraton.
"It would be massive to captain England at any time and I am flattered to be linked with it," Gerrard told Sky Sports News.
"The manager has not decided yet and we will just have to wait and see.
"It is the stuff of dreams to play for England whether it be an international friendly or a competitive match.
"I will give it my all and all the players are looking forward to it."
Gerrard has never lost a game he has played for England, but the Liverpool ace admitted he does not take much notice of the record.
"Some people make a point of it that I have not lost for England, but from a players point of view me it is a chance to get another cap, another win for confidence and a chance for the new faces to try and impress," said Gerrard.
Gerrard refused to be drawn on his future at Anfield with questions being raised over his long-term future and that of team-mate Michael Owen if Liverpool fail to win qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League.
"We will have to wait and see. I have got a passion for Liverpool and I love the place," added Gerrard.
"It is not just me or Michael (Owen) that wants to be playing in the Champions League everyone at the club wants the Champions League.
