England's Under-17 side had to settle for a 1-1 draw from their clash with their Switzerland counterparts at Ashton Gate on Wednesday, shown live on Sky Sports 1. The English were looking to exact revenge for their defeat last May in the European Championship semi-finals and things looked good when Shane Paul fired John Peacock's men in front on 11 minutes, but Moreno Costanzo drew the visitors level shortly afterwards from the penalty spot. England dominated the game and had the greater chances, but found a Swiss defence and an excellent keeper in resilient form. Paul opened the scoring for England with a sparkling left-footed strike. The ball broke to the Aston Villa man 20 yards out, following good work from Lee Martin, and he showed no nerves to execute a superb arching shot which left the Swiss keeper stranded. The visitors were not behind for long, however, as Costanzo won and scored a penalty. After tumbling under minimal contact in the box, Costanzo stepped up and confidently tucked his shot past Joe Lewis. England had chances to win the game, with Nathan Doyle guilty of two glaring misses. The first chance went begging as he dallied on the ball in the area and saw his shot charged down, while the second came and went as he headed over the bar from six yards with the goal at his mercy.
