;D Pavel Nedved is considered one of the hot favourites for the Balon d’Or, but has not even been nominated for FIFA’s World Player of the Year Award. The Juventus star has hit the headlines with a fantastic personal campaign, winning the Scudetto, reaching the Champions’ League Final and taking the unfancied Czech Republic to Euro 2004. However, the midfielder is not included in the three-man shortlist revealed by FIFA this evening. Real Madrid duo Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo – who lost out on the trip to Old Trafford following Nedved’s decisive goal in Turin – are joined by Arsenal’s Thierry Henry. Henry’s chances of lifting the trophy have been greatly boosted by his stunning performance in the 5-1 hammering of Inter on Tuesday night. Zidane has already won the FIFA Award twice, in 1998 and 2000, while Ronaldo is up for his fourth victory speech following wins in ’96, ’97 and 2002. The winner will be announced on December 15 in Switzerland and is voted for by Coaches all over the world.
