The following year, Athens will host Europe's premier showpiece event with Glasgow's Hampden Park staging the Uefa Cup final, following a meeting in Estonia on Tuesday. Uefa have handed The Stade de France next year's Champions League showpiece, while the 2007 final will take place at the Olympic Stadium in the Greek capital. The French stadium hosted the 2000 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Valencia, which Real won 3-0 with Steve McManaman amongst the scorers. Meanwhile, Athens's Olympic Stadium will host its first European final since being completely rebuilt for the Olympic games last summer. Hampden last staged a European showpiece in 2002 when Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen met in the Scottish capital for the Champions League final.
