news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/euro_2004/switzerland/3897839.stmUefa has given Switzerland striker Alexander Frei a three-match ban for spitting at England's Steven Gerrard. Frei had originally being cleared due to lack of evidence but new TV footage showed him spitting on Gerrard's neck, during last month's Euro 2004 game. The striker was withdrawn from the Swiss squad and provisionally banned for the duration of the tournament and he missed the game against France. Uefa then appealed against its own disciplinary body's decision. Uefa had asked for a five-game ban partly as an extra punishment for Frei's initial denial. The Appeals Body partially upheld the appeal on Thursday, Frei's 25th birthday, banning him for three games but including the missed France match among them. Italy forward Francesco Totti was banned for three matches during the tournament for spitting at Danish player Christian Poulsen.
