AFTER tournaments we all pick a team of our favourite players.
And I'm gonna do that after the final.
Clearly, the next 31 games might change my views on various footballers.
Nobody knows what will happen, or who will play well, or who will be champions.
So I decided to pick two teams.
One before a ball is kicked.
Another after the final on July 4th.
The first eight names took about 30 seconds.
Selecting a right-centreback and goalkeeper took a day.
I wanted tacklers and experience.
My striker was Cassano or Pauleta.
Cassano is more gifted, more exciting, and braver, but too young.
Cassano is electric. He is a lot better than Baros or Owen or Klose.
But I'm not sure Trap will pick him ahead of the injury-prone Vieri.
My favourite footballers tend to be warriors, players I would pick for a team that was playing for my life, rather than pure entertainers.
So far I haven't thought about the tournament in depth, but I was looking for somebody who could score 4 goals in 6 games, somebody to do what Paulo Rossi did for Italy.
A POACHER.
Who would be the best goalpoacher for this very talented team in a 4-4-1-1 formation?
It's : Buffon ; Puyol Thuram Silvestre Cole; Figo Vieira Costinha Gerrard ;Zidane ; Pauleta.
On July 5th I will pick nine different names. Probably.
RONALD REAGAN has died at 93.
Good article in Village Voice today.
Headline: Death of a Salesman.
Tom Carson says Ronald Reagan is the man who destroyed America's sense of reality.
He writes, "I think that Reagan, like no other American, deserves the honor of being the first person ever embalmed at Disneyland."
