Deportivo 0-1 Porto
UEFA Champions League semi-final, second leg
Aggregate: 0-1
Porto have advanced to their first UEFA Champions League final since 1987 following a 1-0 semi-final, second leg victory over Deportivo La Coruna.
After a 0-0 first leg in Oporto, Brazilian striker Derlei's penalty on the hour mark ended the Galician club's dreams of making their first European final, with Depor defender Nourredine Naybet being sent off for two bookable offences.
Javier Irureta's side started the second leg without the services of two key players in Mauro Silva and Jorge Andrade, as they went searching for a result on a wet evening at the Riazor.
An even and competitive first half saw Depor start the brightest with early surges deep into Porto's defensive third.
The match quickly evened itself out when a significant booking was handed out by Italian referee Pierluigi Collina.
La Coruna's Moroccan international defender Naybet was harshly yellow carded for taking down Derlei, who embellished his reaction to the tackle in dramatic style.
The booking meant the North African star would miss the final, regardless of the result on Tuesday.
The visitors then had a spell of their own, but chances went astray as Maniche shot woefully wide while Deco saw his effort go high and wide.
Depor striker Walter Pandiani showed the threat he can pose in front of goal with a volley over Vitor Baia's bar - even though the play was blown for offside.
The home side finished the half as the ones more likely to score and Juan Carlos Valeron will wonder how he missed with an unmarked side-foot volley from just yards out with the goal at his mercy.
Valeron beat Porto's offside trap as the ball was headed back into the box by Aldo Duscher after an initial clearance from a free kick on the right - but unsure if he was onside - the Spaniard lost his concentration to beat Baia with his effort.
Moments later, good work from Albert Luque saw him cross from the left for Pandiani, but the Uruguayan's attempt of an overhead kick saw him fail to connect, as both sides saw another half of their tie end in a goalless stalemate.
The second half saw Porto miss their best chance to score as Derlei's diving header from Deco's cross on the right went right off Depor goalkeeper Jose Francisco Molina's far post.
Despite that miss, the Portuguese champions' threat on the break was causing Depor problems and it soon paid off for the visitors just before the hour mark.
Deco drew La Coruna defender Cesar into making a late challenge on the edge of the box and Collina had no hesitation in giving the penalty to Porto.
Derlei stepped up to slot home his spot kick left-footed past Molina for 1-0, with the keeper just unable to reach the shot after guessing the right way.
The goal meant that Irureta's side needed two goals to win and they pressed to draw level, with Pandiani heading just wide of the far post after Luque supplied him with an excellent cross from the left.
La Coruna's plight was made worse as Naybet received his second yellow card and his marching orders for another late challenge - this time on Paulo Ferreira.
Molina was then called on to make an important save from Maniche before Depor substitute Diego Tristan missed Porto's goal with a curling free kick.
He was then booked for trying to earn the home side a penalty late on, but the silent home crowd knew their chance had gone, as Porto celebrated a second trip to a European final in successive seasons, having claimed the Uefa Cup last term.
Jose Mourinho's side will await the winner of the Monaco against Chelsea tie on Wednesday, with the final to come at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany later this month.
