Wembley Stadium chiefs are to bid for the 2007 Champions League final. The old Wembley hosted the European Cup final five times and Wembley National Stadium Limited has written to Uefa saying they plan to bid for it again. "When it opens in 2006, Wembley will be the best stadium in the world," said Wembley chief executive Michael Cunnah. "We have informed Uefa we will bid for the Champions League final at the earliest opportunity. I am confident we will be an attractive option." The stadium's construction is ahead of schedule and is scheduled to open in early 2006 at a cost of £757m. "We are determined to bring the biggest events in sport and music back to the 'Venue of Legends'," Cunnah told the Football Association's official website. "We can offer the fans, the players and the event organisers the best possible facilities for the Champions League final." Wembley is already due to host a range of major events including England internationals, the FA Cup final, the League Cup final, Rugby League Challenge Cup final and the FA Community Shield. It is also the proposed venue for the Olympic football finals in 2012, should London's bid be successful.
