Dutch police have arrested more than 80 Newcastle United fans after violence broke out before the team's Uefa Cup match. The violence preceded the Newcastle United match Football fans clashed in the town of Breda in Holland in an area packed with bars and discos before the game against NAC Breda on Wednesday, said police. Inspector Willem Van Hoedenck, of the local police, told BBC Radio 5 Live there had been about 94 arrests, of which 87 were English fans. He said: "English fans and Dutch football fans were together drinking beer but then there were problems". Fighting broke out and bottles and glasses were thrown smashing windows. A group of 77 fans were arrested at one time, taken to a bus and brought to a police prison. Police said most of those detained were still in jail. Newcastle secured their place in the second round of the Uefa Cup by beating Breda 1-0.
