news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4725332.stmStuttgart will be the venue for the Republic of Ireland's opening European Championship qualifier against Germany on 2 September. The fixture will give Republic fans the chance to return to the venue where the Irish shocked England in the 1988 European Championships. The venue was called the Neckar Stadium back in 1988 but it has been renamed as the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium. The game will be Steve Staunton's first competitive game in charge. Wales, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Cyprus and San Marino are also in the Republic's group.
