eleven-a-side.com/acrossthewater/irish_soccer_detail.asp?newsid=19655Former Irish international Jason McAteer has been appointed to a player-coaching role at Coca-Cola League One side Tranmere Rovers. McAteer joined the Wirral side from Sunderland last year and has now taken his first step into coaching, a side of the game in which he has long held aspirations. His chance came about after assistant boss Richard Hill left the club, with John McMahon being promoted from the coaching staff to become right-hand man to manager Brian Little and McAteer filling the role formerly held by McMahon. Little said: “Jason made his desire to move into coaching clear when he joined us. This marks the first step of this transitional path from player to coach. Initially, he will assist John McMahon as player/coach and John’s role will be unchanged. "I’ve taken a fresh look at a number of areas, primarily the first team, but also the way we operate behind the scenes. What worked well for us last season isn’t as effective now, and we hope this simplified structure will suit us better."
