eleven-a-side.com/boysingreen/irish_soccer_detail.asp?newsid=19650George Burley has been linked with the vacant Irish manager’s job after parting company with Scottish Premier League leaders Hearts in sensational circumstances on Saturday afternoon. Burley only joined the Edinburgh club in the summer and guided them to the top of the SPL table after a stunning 10-game unbeaten start to the season. But rumours of a difficult relationship with the club’s Lithuanian owner, Vladimir Romanov, have never been far from the surface and news of his departure was conveyed to news agencies at around lunchtime on Saturday – two hours before Hearts’ SPL clash with Dunfermline Athletic. That has led to feverish speculation as to his future, with the Scot the latest name to be linked with the Irish job made vacant by the departure of Brian Kerr earlier this week. Burley is a highly-respected manager, having led unfashionable Ipswich Town to European competition in his time in charge at Portman Road, and the possibility that he could be in line for the Irish job is considered so real that betting was suspended by bookmakers across the UK and Ireland.
