ANCONA, October 18 (Serie A) - Juventus took an outright lead at the top of the Serie A table, and maintained their unbeaten start to the new season, with a nervy victory against rock-bottom Ancona.
The home side, without a win and just one point from five games going into Saturday's clash with the Bianconeri, looked down and out with just minutes to go.
But a last-gasp goal effort from Maurizio Ganz brought the score back to 3-2 and created a nailbiting end to an entertaining match.
Fabrizio Miccoli had put Juve in front with Gianluca Zambrotta adding a superbly-taken second.
Miccoli then netted his second goal of the match before William Viali pulled a goal back just before the hour mark and then Ganz created a late scare for Marcello Lippi's side.
Juventus controlled the early exchanges and could have taken the lead as early as the seventh minute when Miccoli whipped in a pin-point cross to Marco Di Vaio, but the Italian international fired agonisingly wide of Alessio Scarpi's right-hand post.
The Bianconeri went close again 10 minutes later, this time Scarpi making a superb save to deny Zambrotta, whose shot took a deflection off Alves Fabio Bilica.
Ancona produced a scare when, against the run of play, they almost broke the deadlock with 25 minutes played.
Forward Dario Hubner headed on to Stefano Lombardi and his left-foot shot beat Juve keeper Gigi Buffon but not defender Paolo Montero, who had positioned himself on the line.
The visitors eventually got the goal their play deserved four minutes later when a corner kick found Miccoli, and his 10-yard snap-shot crossed the line - despite the efforts of the defenders on the goalline.
Juve then doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time when Miccoli's corner picked out Zambrotta on the edge of the area, and the midfielder took one touch before firing a lovely 20-yard drive high into the top-left corner.
Three minutes into the second period and Juve had the game by the scruff of the neck.
Zambrotta turned provider, crossing to Miccoli who headed home from close range for his second of the game.
Ancona pulled a goal back with 65 minutes gone - Viali meeting a corner from Ganz to nod home what looked like purely a consolation goal.
And Juve should have put the game beyond doubt, creating and missing a hatful of chances before the home side bagged a second to create a nailbiting finish.
With just minutes left on the clock Daniel Andersson found Ganz in space and the veteran forward chipped the on-rushing Buffon to give his side hope of snatching an unlikely draw.
But time was against them and Lippi's side held on for victory.
