United defender Gary Kelly is proud to be returning to his home town of Drogheda this weekend with his Leeds team-mates.
The Whites will play a friendly game against Drogheda United on Sunday (12.00pm KO) with part of the proceeds going to the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre, opened last year with the proceeds of Kelly's testimonial game played over two years ago.
The former Irish international, who has now spent over 12 years at the club, dedicated the match between United and Celtic in May 2002 at Elland Road to the memory of his sister Mandy, who died from cancer five years ago.
Kelly says it has been a big success and he's delighted to have both Drogheda and Leeds United involved in helping to support the centre.
"It opened officially in June last year but it's going very, very well," he said.
"There's still alot of fund raising going on and we have another golf day coming up in the summer. There's alot of people in the town itself pulling together, and hopefully we won't have to do too many more fundraisers as it's starting to look after itself now.
"It's brilliant to bring back my club to Drogheda as I've been in Leeds so long as well, and there should be a good turnout from Leeds fans in Ireland and also Drogheda United fans."
The trip will also give Kevin Blackwell's new-look side an opportunity to get to know each other after several recent arrivals.
"The gaffer's been great to bring a team over with the free weekend, and we'll have a few Guinness's as well I'm sure!
"It'll be good to get over there for different scenery and a couple of days away from Leeds. Its a bonding time as well, and with the run-in and being just outside the play-offs, you just never know!"
