Liam Miller was the pick of the United stars in international action on Wednesday night with a superb goal for the Republic of Ireland.
It was Miller's first goal in 11 appearances for Ireland and it came 10 minutes after his arrival as a substitute for former Leeds defender Ian Harte in the 3-0 win over World Cup finalists Sweden.
The midfielder collected the ball on the half-way line halfway line, ran into open space ahead of him before hitting a 25-yard right-foot shot over the Swedish goalkeeper.
It marked a satisfying return to international action for the 24-year-old who was left out of the Republic's final three World Cup qualifiers but has now certainly taken his opportunity to impress new boss Steve Staunton.
Jonathan Douglas, also pack in the squad after a considerably absence, was an unused substitute.
Meanwhile in Germany Eddie Lewis played the full 90 minutes his USA side beat Poland 1-0 in sub-zero conditions that included a second half snow storm.
United manager Kevin Blackwell has hoped Lewis would play just one half with an eye on this weekend's trip to Crystal Palace.
Lewis set up the only goal of the game and was given the man of the match award for his performance.
David Healy had a frustrating night for Northern Ireland despite their win over Estonia at Windsor Park.
Healy was lively during his hour on the pitch but found Arsenal keeper Mart Poom in superb form, twice turning away good shots from the United number 9.

Elsewhere Rui Marques came off the bench to make his first appearance for Angola in their 1-0 defeat to South Korea in Seoul. The former Stuttgart defender is hoping to win a place in Angola's World Cup squad despite not being able to break into the Leeds first team.
