www.leedsunited.comKevin Blackwell has sent his best wishes to former Leeds star Alan Smith as he begins his rehabilitation from serious injury. Smith, a product of the United academy, was stretchered off during Manchester United's recent FA Cup defeat to Liverpool after suffering a horrific broken leg and a dislocated ankle at the same time. Blackwell has a lot of sympathy for Smith after revealing he too suffered a similar injury during his playing days with Scarborough. "I experienced something similar to what Alan's done so I know how bad it is and I never played for just over 12 months," said Blackwell. "I broke my leg and displaced my ankle which is almost the same as Alan, and as much as you train and play football you pray it never happens to you. "Alan is one of the most focused people I have ever come across and very determined. I remember him being kicked black and blue on his leg at a game at Manchester United and he played the following week because he stayed late everyday to get treatment and I am sure he will be back." The players and staff members at Leeds United have also sent Alan their best wishes as he begins the long road back to fitness.
