Sunderland defender Gary Breen is to have a scan after injuring his knee in Saturday's game against Coventry. Breen limped off in the first half of the 0-0 draw at the Stadium of Light and is out of the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Canada next week.
"Gary got a bang on the knee. He thought he would be able to continue but when he stood up and tried to run, he could tell it wasn't right," manager Mick McCarthy told the club's official website.
"It will be assessed. I will not know whether the problem is serious until we have been through that process."
Breen joined Sunderland from West Ham in the summer.
