Kate Winslet has been nominated for two Bafta best actress awards for her roles in Finding Neverland and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
She will compete against fellow British actress Imelda Staunton from the drama Vera Drake, which picked up seven nominations in total.
The Aviator, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, has the most nominations with 14, including best film.
The Baftas take place on 12 February, two weeks ahead of the Oscars.
The Aviator, which won best film at Sunday's Golden Globes, also sees Martin Scorsese nominated for best director and Leonardo DiCaprio for best actor for his portrayal of Howard Hughes.
Also nominated for best picture are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Finding Neverland, Vera Drake and The Motorcycle Diaries.
Oscar winning role
The leading actor award will be fought between Gael Garcia Bernal for The Motorcycle Diaries, Jamie Foxx for Ray, Jim Carrey for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Johnny Depp for Finding Neverland.
Charlize Theron finds herself nominated in the best actress category for Monster, the role which won her an Oscar in 2004.
Staunton and Winslet also have best actress competition from Ziyi Zhang for martial arts movie House of Flying Daggers.
Building on his win at the Golden Globes, Clive Owen is once again nominated as a supporting actor for Closer.
Jamie Foxx also secured a second nomination for his supporting role in Collateral.
Bafta favourite Meryl Streep has been selected in the supporting actress category for the Manchurian Candidate, having previously been nominated for nine films by the British Academy of Film over the years.
She will compete against Natalie Portman for her Golden Globe winning role in Closer, Julie Christie for Finding Neverland, Cate Blanchett for The Aviator and Heather Craney Vera Drake.

Five diverse films have been nominated for best British picture of the year: Dead Man's Shoes, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Akaban, My Summer of Love, Shaun of the Dead and Vera Drake.
US comedy Sideways, which has wowed many awards judges this year, only managed to collect one Bafta nomination, best screenplay for Jim Taylor and its director Alexander Payne.
The public will be able to vote for their favourite blockbuster in the Orange Film of the Year award.
Shrek 2, The Incredibles, sword-and-sandals epic Troy and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban are among the nominees for the award, which was won last year by the concluding instalment of the Lord of the Rings.
As in recent years, the Bafta film awards are taking place ahead of the Oscars, to help the awards gain prominence in the film calendar.
Prior to 2001 when the award ceremony was held after the Oscars in April, it was considered that the British ceremony had little impact and was overshadowed by its Hollywood counterpart.
