BBC political editor Andrew Marr is to interview artist David Hockney for the first outing of BBC Two's weekly programme The Culture Show.
The show is part of the BBC's pledge earlier this year to increase its arts, current affairs and documentaries output during peak times.
Its presenters include playwright and actor Kwame Kwei-Armah and journalist and broadcaster Mariella Frostrup.
Each show will be brought to viewers from a different city or venue.
A regular team will provide features and reports, including film critic Mark Kermode and art critic Robert Hughes, while guest reporters and authors will also contribute.
The show's executive editor, George Entwistle, said: "We are delighted to have put together such a lively and diverse team, including some of the most passionate and authoritative voices from the world of arts and culture."
The show will aim to offer a range of views, interviews and breaking news from the worlds of "high art, popular culture and everything else in between".
The Culture Show will be broadcast on BBC Two at 1900 (2000 in Scotland) and 2320 each Thursday.
