The US Postal Service will produce stamps for 10 Muppets favourites plus one for their creator Jim Henson. The Swedish Chef, Bunson and Beaker and Statler and Waldorf are among the other puppets who will be on mail from March. "US commemorative stamps portray individuals, subjects and events that are instrumental to the American experience," the postal service said. The Muppets have become one of the most popular and long-running entertainment franchises since they first appeared in 1976. At that time, their show was watched by an estimated 235 million viewers per week in more than 100 countries, and they continue to appear on TV and in films. Disney characters including Mickey Mouse will also get their own stamps in 2005, as will real-life screen legends Greta Garbo and Henry Fonda.
