Leeds Reserves 1 Wolves 3
Robbie Blake found the net for United but the Whites paid for some poor defending as Wolves ran out 3-1 winners at Elland Road on Tuesday evening.
Blake played the full 90 minutes of the defeat with Kevin Blackwell keen for him to keep up his match fitness with Leeds without a first team game this week.
The striker was lively and deserved his goal that drew United level, but once again the self-destruct button was pressed and after wins against Wigan and Liverpool, the reserves revival came to an end.
Leeds survived a few early scares as Wolves applied some early pressure.
After blocking a shot from Leon Clarke, Ian Bennett dropped a cross under pressure from Wolves striker Romanian Vio Ganea but escaped as Stephen Gleeson shot high and wide with the goal at his mercy.
The visitors did score first after 18 minutes as the Leeds defence were left static by a Kevin O'Connor through ball and Ganea comfortably beat Bennett, slotting home a low shot.
Ian Moore nearly grabbed a quick equaliser with a fierce right footed curling 20-yarder that was plucked from beneath the bar by Wolves keeper Stefan Postma.
Robbie Blake put a ball into the area for Danny Pugh to have a shot but his effort was deflected over.
On 25 minutes Ganea should have made it 2-0 to the visitors but he shot wide when clean through.
Irish youngster Robert Bayly showed he isn't shy about going for goal with a terrific shot from 25-yards that was destined for the top right hand corner of the net until it was tipped away by the keeper at the last.
The equaliser had been coming and eventually with nine minutes to go to half-time Robbie Blake got it. He and Moore combined and Blake brought the ball in from the left of the area before firing past Postma.
Just after the break a mistake by Bayly saw him let the ball run under his foot and Clarke was gifted a great chance but Dan Harding was quick as a flash to close down the striker and Bennett was untroubled.
Bennett was forced into action though when Leeds failed to deal with a free-kick after the hour. The ball fell for Martin Riley inside the six yard box and he stabbed it goalwards forcing Bennett into an instinctive save.
Moore should have scored on 66 minutes when he held off a defender well but Postma had come out quickly and the former Burnley man wasn't able to lift his shot over the keeper.
Bennett was outstanding again on 70 minutes when he got down well to deny Thomas Stewart what would have been a certain goal after the midfielder had got clear of the back four.
There was little Bennett could do though on 76 minutes when midfielder Stephen Gleeson took the ball down the right flank and struck a well-hit shot across goal into the left hand corner of the net. It was poor defending by the Leeds back line, half of whom had expected the midfielder to pass inside.
Wolves made it 3-1 three minutes later when Stewart curled home a right footed shot from just inside the area. Leeds were left stunned and on their way to losing another reserve game at Elland Road.
Danny Pugh claimed a penalty in injury time when a Wolves player appeared to trip him in the box but all United got out of it was a corner, after which the full time whistle went on another disappointing night for the second string.
United: Bennett, Stansfield, Harding, Bayly, Marques, Madden, Gray (Howson 78), Pugh, Blake, Moore, Gardner. Subs not used: Smith, Wilberforce, Hird, Camfield.
Wolves: Postma, Little (Bennett 60), Rafferty, Gleeson (Fitzpatrick 87), Riley, Craddock, Stewart, O'Connor, Ganea, Clarke, Jones (Collins 90).
