I thought I'd start a post listing the gigs I've been to & wot I remember of them, starting with 10/11/72.....................



GIGS

10/11/72 – The Rainbow, Finsbury Park
Slade, Thin Lizzy, Suzi Quatro

I Woz 12 & this woz my 1st gig
I went with Jimmy Bracebridge, who woz a big slade fan, the album “slade alive” being played 2 death round his house 4 weeks b4 & after this gig.

Suzi came on stage dressed in her black leather jump suit & looked stunning.
It sent my imagination running & I never really looked back. Good job I didn’t c Bowie or Bolan 1st lol .
Wot attitude she had, the 1st REAL expression of girl power & wot a start 2 my 1st gig.

Thin Lizzy were next on stage & the girls in the audience went berserk. Phil Lynott really had sum appeal here. I particularly liked when he asked if any girls had any Irish in them & then if they wanted a bit more lol. Lizzy were fantastic & really put on a gr8 show, I followed them 4 years after & saw them again in 1983. They debuted “whiskey in the jar” which sounded kool, along wiv a load of good old fashioned geetar rawk, gr8 set.

Then came slade who couldn’t decide whether they were still a skinhead band or a glam rock band. Here’s the tracklist & I’ve just found an audio file of it so will post more @ a l8r date

The next gig I went 2 woz a free concert in Hyde Park in the summer of 1976.
I went with Harry Potter my best m8 @ school, mainly coz his dad owned a pub the same az mine. Camden (Princess Beatrice) woz a very rough area then & ain’t much better now (going 2 c Soulfly @ electric ballroom 2nite (11/02/09)). Stayed up all nite @ Harry’s pub & made our way 2 Hyde Park @ about 5am, made a spot about 10 yds from the stage got out the travel chess & waited 4 the event 2 start.



I can’t remember if Supercharge or Steve Hillage woz 1st & only really remember hurdy gurdy.

Kiki Dee meant we were nearer 2 cing queen, She dun “don’t go breaking my heart” with a cardboard cut-out of Elton John with the crowd singing his part.

Then on strode Freddie Mercury in a ridiculous white leotard fing he stood there 4 a while milking the applause sed hello & then announced “This is 4 the wankers @ Melody Maker who sed we couldn’t do this live” & blitzed bohemian rhapsody, fucking awesum version.

The Human League
21/12/80 – Bingley Hall - Stafford

It woz freezing cold & snowing when I got off the train, I had a sheepskin coat, which woz a real pisser inside. Altho it was a massive aircraft hanger type venue it seemed intimate once I'd warmed up. The vocals were not the best, lol @ deadpan Phil, but the electronic muzik made up 4 this. I remember meeting sum army or airforce dude in the pub earlier & going to their barracks 4 food b4 getting off to the gig.
I really enjoyed it & woz fascinated by the slide show behind the band. Circus of death woz brilliant. I don’t remember leaving or getting home az I woz pretty wasted by the end of it.

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street band
07/07/85 – Roundhay Park, Leeds.

This woz certainly a day 2 remember az 11 of us made our way 2 Leeds in a transit van.
The day started wiv Jimmy telling us we hadn’t hired the minibus we thought we woz travelling in, so off Jimmy, Derek & I went 2 try 2 hire 1.
2 hours l8r we returned to Jimmy’s in a wreck of a white transit van, but not b4 we had ran out of petrol 10 minutes after pulling away from the hire gaff. I told Derek 2 get petrol b4 we got back 2 Jimmy’s, but az woz ALWAYS his decision, he left it till it woz 2 l8. Jimmy found an old tin of pine which we emptied & went to the garage to fill wiv petrol.This really woz a sign of the day 2 cum (like summing out of a Cheech & Chong film).

To make the van more comfortable we chucked a mattress in the back & all piled in.
Pat (Jimmy’s wife) & Maggy (Derek’s bird) sat up front wiv Derek driving. In the back woz me & Carol, Jimmy & his daughter Samantha & 4 lads who were Jimmy’s neighbours & off we went. I brought booze of course & we all had enuff puff 2 get a small nation stoned. A few of us had hay fever & tissues were being stuffed behind the mattress. It wozn’t long b4 I woz oblivious 2 all but wot woz in my hands & time just flew. I can remember lots of sneezing & constant Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuce muzik on the tape deck. @ 1 stage Derek tried 2 put anuva tape on, Jimmy lent over the front seat 2 the tape deck, removed the offending article & threw it straight out of the window hahaha.

Sum1 musta put a spliff out on 1 of the tissues behind the mattress, coz there woz a plume of smoke starting 2 billow inside the back of the van. We tried 2 put it out, but it had taken hold of the mattress, so we had 2 pull over - But we were on a dual carriageway!!! By the time Derek had realised it woz a little bit serious, the smoke had filled the back, so he abruptly pulled on2 the grass verge. We threw the mattress out & all piled out coughing & spluttering. It musta looked like a comedy film scene, it certainly felt like 1. After all giving the mattress a kicking 2 ensure no more smoke, we dusted ourselves down, had pisses & calmly got back in the van & off we went again. Leeds woz looming & the weather woz brilliant, not long b4 the boss.

We parked the van az close az possible & Derek removed the rotor arm, although y any1 would wanna nick it woz beyond me, but better safe than sorry I spose.
We walked thru a market, bought sum oranges & injected vodka in2 them. On 1 of the stalls they had a portable tv & Boris Becker woz in his first Wimbledon final.
We got 2 Roundhay Park & discovered that we didn’t need tickets az u could climb the fence or practically push it over. Nemind all paid 4 now, I woz gunner go & try 2 sell my ticket & climb in, but decided against it.



So on2 the gig then – Massive crowd in wot seemed like a big bowl, good job it wozn’t raining. We found a space on top of a hill a long way from the stage but the screen woz ok. The sound woz a little bit repeated with the sound system right next 2 us, but we thought it woz better than trekking in2 the throng. Anyway once he started all sound problems disappeared.

It seemed az tho no sooner had they started than she woz walking off the side of the stage & it woz all over.

Bob didn’t seem 2 b very enthusiastic & we were both a bit disappointed wiv the general ‘feel’ of the set, maybe the crystal castles bird woz backstage.
Sue left about 2/3 of the way thru the set coz the bar woz shut & missed my fave track 100 years (but she did meet white lies on their way 2 the aftershow party), gr8 version of it & made up 4 the generally low level of excitement.

Gr8 night out & well worth the £30. Chicken & beer on the way home & a hangover the next day @ work, but smiled thru it knowing it woz a short day.

Sue paid 4 this gig az FF r her current faves (along wiv Crystal castles). I wozn't 2 bov'd 2 c them 4 the 2nd time in a fortnite, but woz pleezed I went coz they put on a gr8 show.
The support band (soft pack) were absolutely pantz, but it gave me a chance 2 stock up.
We were right near the front wiv a barrier 2 lean on (gotta get yr priorities sorted @ our age lol).
Hammersmith Apollo iz practically identical to Brixton Academy.
Christian (sorry Alex) started wearing a white jacket, which he dispensed wiv after the 1st track & the photographers disappeared @ the same time (wot a job eh, 5 mins work & watch the rest of the gig).
They were on form, particularly their guitarist, who I hadn't taken much notice of till now.
Good view & good sound.
Well worth the ticket price


Ad a quick beer on way thru the station after coz needed loo.
Got off train @ Earls court coz wanted food, took ages in KFC, Sue thought I'd left her, I couldn't find her & thought she'd gone home. We met, after many overground/underground txts were missed, @ Leyton. Missed the last bus, so got a cab home.
3 hours sleep @ up 4 work (I duuno how long I can do this for).

Gr8 gig & a fantastic venue.
Me & Sue made our way around the site until we found the perfect vantage point, a so-called VIP area ;D It didn't start filling up till Beth came on so woz well good. We woz on the side balcony directly over the front of the stage = fantastic view.

The support band kasms were really good, a cross between crystal castles & sonic youth. I'm so pleezed 2 b seeing new bands again.

The venue has 3 bars & sells red stripe IN CANS that don't get poured in2 flimsy glasses.

Beth appeared wearing a shimmery dress & black eyes.
Her voice iz fantastic.
She's got sum energy 4 a big girl.
She heard me call the crowd lemmings & didn't quite understand wot I meant, but hey it's her we're here 2 c.
She ended up without her dress & crowd-surfing whilst singing private dancer LOL.

Afternoon off work & a nice pub lunch b4 setting off (in the blazing sun) for Hyde Park.
Stop off @ Sainsburys for water!!! Yes, water & sandwiches & pork pies (I really must b getting old now).

Got 2 Hyde Park about 4 & immediately started looking 4 CC t-shirts. Found sum on the 4th stall, well pleezed.
After buying water & deciding we were gunner b good re drink, we had 2 visit a bar az it'd b rude not 2.
The queue woz ridiculous & I woz about 2 do a u-turn when i noticed it woz disappearing quickly. The
organisation of the bars haz 2 b commended, about 30 ppl working behind the ramp ensured hardly any wait.
Anyway by this time 'Hypnotic Brass Ensemble' had appeared on stage & did their best to "get the party started".
They tried their best, but weren't much more the a church band on a day off, happy bunch tho.

Off 4 a sarnie & a sit in the shade az it woz abofuckinglutely boiling .
On Came 'Golden Silvers' wishy-washy filler band, time 4 anuva visit 2 the beer tent.

Found a spot close 2 the big video screen & with a direct view of the stage 4 Crystal Castles.
Alice came on wearing a jacket! she iz off her head. She also had a t-shirt on which read "Oasis have aids".
The set woz brilliant & it woz funny 2 c many ppl around us turned off by her unusual vocal display.
I'd h8 every1 2 b in2 MY muzik anyway.
She proceeded 2 fall, smash herself, crowd surf & try 2 climb back on stage wiv a little help.
All in all a gr8 set & a well deserved appetizer 4 the main band l8r.
She didn't wanna stop & apeared 2 still b attempting 2 sing when the adverts appeared back on the video screen.

















Off 4 anuva visit 2 the beer & shade tents.
Finished off the food & spent most of the Foals set in the shade az they sounded rubbish.

Tension mounted az it woz nearing time 4 Damon & the boyz.
They came on 2 ecstatic applause & proved just how much we have missed.

Got up, went 2 church, donated 2
charity *cough*
Woke up, got up, ad a bath, went 4
pub lunch, luvly steak brunch, defo
gunner av that again. Waited ages 4
bus, good job we weren't in a rush 2
get 2 Wembley & not 2 bovd about
missing reverend & the makers, or the
enemy cum 2 fink of it.
Got 2 Wembley about 4, discovered we
had gone 2 the wrong hotel, it's
gunner b 1 of those days I thought,
but the right hotel was 5 minutes
walk & we discovered it had a 24hr
bar got 2 room & it woz the
honeymoon suite wiv 4 poster bed &
massive whirlpool bath, the day woz
getting better.

Right off 2 Wembley then, coupla cans
4 the walk & a bottle of water, water
AGAIN lol. Got 2 the stadium about 5
caught the very end of 'makers' got 2
out seats & on came the enemy.
Weirdly I knew nearly every track &
thought they put on quite a good
show.

early, so woz underdog, both went down
well. Well let's b serious here, wot
Kasabian trax don't go down well
(naq). Tom dedicated 'fast fuse' 2 Liam.
They worked the crowd well az
usual, crowd surfing, liquid/clothes
throwing were popular. No sooner had
we started 2 sing along with the
chants than they were gone. Gr8 set
az usual, they really r the band of
the year & we've seen them 3 times
with 1 more 2 cum next week:-D


So bar & larf @ the prices of hot
dogs & wait 4 Oasis 2 appear.
It woz obvious when Oasis were due 2
cum on bcoz the stewards all had
pacamacs on HAHAHA.
Liam woz wearing a horrible massive
flat green jacket. If that's part of
his new range he can stuff it. It's
warm ffs u poser.

We knew this woz the last track but

poster 2 look 4wd 2 :-D

Leisurely walk back 2 the hotel, KFC
bucket on the way, 2 pints from the
bar & up the wooden hill. Scoffed the
chicken & didn't even drink the
pints, woke up bright in the morning,
ad a luvly whirpool bath & off in2
London 4 sum retail therapy. Finished
off on the south bank of the Thames.
Work 2mora, but a short week & NIN 2
look 4wd 2 on Wednesday.

Where do I start wiv this 1?
I've been looking 4wd 2 this 4 so long I thought it would never happen.
Officially NIN's last non-festival UK live performance, as Trent decides to stop performing live as NIN "forever"?
He sez he will still produce NIN muzik & also collaborate wiv uvaz *phew*.




Right I bought 2 tix the second they came out & then decided I wanted 2 b nearer the stage 4 Trent's last gig, so bought anuva 2.
Posted the originals on gumtree & sold them just b4 meeting Sue @ the o2.
Wiv the money I bought a hoody & a tshirt, unheard of 4 me 2 spend money lol, but they had wave goodbye or the date/s on em, so had 2 b dun.
Met Sue & had 2 x £5 pints of Becks
Missed Mew :s
Sue bought a tshirt from upsatirs, but wanted the white long-sleeved 1 we'd seen downstairs.
Found our seat, right on the aisle Jane's addiction came on, listened 2 the 1st track & couldn't stand his voice so went 2 the bar. Had a pint & decided 2 give them anuva go. Perry 'the wondervoice' Farrel woz going on about yanks getting 2 know London thru Oliver Twist & thinking it woz ok 2 steal, been caught
stealing started which woz the only track Sue wanted 2 hear. Track finished & I really couldn't take his voice anymore, so off we skipped again.

Anuva beer & I bought a 2nd tshirt.
Tick tick tick. Finally the JA fans started coming out, which woz our q 2 get 2 our seats.
Not bad seats, but defo not as double8tickets.com sed "VIP area seats", the main fing woz good view & aisle seats, Sue had her opera glasses so all woz hunky dory.

WOW, wot a start! 1/2 trax & Trent has already thrown the mike stand & the keyboard off stage & dun a 'Kurt' in2 the drums - FANTASTIC start, fings can only go in a downward spiral now heehee.

Trent started saying that in 1989 he woz finking how he wanted NIN 2 sound, I sed 2 Sue "Gary Numan's gunner cum on" low & behold who should arrive on stage but Gary Numan !!!

This really woz heart-felt & sung by everyone. Brought a lump 2 my throat. I don't know y so many ppl say Johnny Cash's version is better - THIS IS IT.

It's now 2 days after the gig & I am still buzzing & happy, the last 2 days @ work I've had a permanent stoopid grin on my face ;D possibly the best gig I've ever been to.

What no closer, Mr self destruct & wretched, I feel cheated!!!
If he'd played for 4 hours he'd still have miss trax 4 me, so woz well pleezed this woz the best of my 4 NIN gigs. I woz a bit dubious of it being @ the O2,

but got good seats & a gr8 view. The sound iz wikid @ this venue. The lights were low-key, the songs were in the old style & all in all it woz like

revisiting with hindsite & experience = Fantastic. When he started talking about wot he wanted NIN 2 b like in 1989 I just knew Gary Numan woz gunner appear.

Cars woz so good even hand that feeds struggled 2 hit the highs it usually does, but by the time Head like a hole played GN woz forgotten (but thanks,

awesome). Hurt woz sung by practically every1 from the heart, it left a large lump in my throat az I thought about it being the last live NIN track I might

ever see. So many highlights 4 me, down in it, heresy etc etc

Started wiv Selling Jesus & just kept going.
Electric ballroom woz packed, but we had a good view & near the bar
She woz on top form.

From the moment Ian Astbury appeared on stage it woz like Jim Morrison had been resurrected. Ian has put sum weight on, but his voice iz still class.
Dun the whole of the Love album & a few greatest hits type o trax, then he introduced the original drummer & bassist & performed Fire & Sanctuary 4 a second time.
I couldn't shake the vision of Jim from my mind the whole set & can't truly remember much uva than his voice woz top notch.
