Third Test, Mumbai, day five:
England 400 & 191 beat India 279 & 100 by 212 runs
Scorecard
Flintoff celebrates as Jaffer is sent on his way by umpire Taufel
England took seven wickets for just 25 runs after lunch on the final day to clinch their first Test win in India for 21 years by 212 runs.
The series ended 1-1 as India went from 75-3 to 100 all out as Shaun Udal took 4-14 and captain Andrew Flintoff 3-14.
Sachin Tendulkar made his best score of the series, and the best of India's innings, with 34 before being caught by Ian Bell at short leg off Udal.
When Flintoff ousted Rahul Dravid, the floodgates opened as India imploded.
The victory ranked alongside some of England's best in the past two years given their horrendous luck with injuries during this tour.
They travelled without first-choice spinner Ashley Giles and then lost captain Michael Vaughan, Marcus Trescothick and Simon Jones within the first fortnight.
The team had to be chopped and changed for each Test with Steve Harmison and opening batsman Alastair Cook ruled out of the Mumbai game.
On the final day's play, India resumed on 18-1 needing 313 to win and England needed nine wickets.
The tourists got the ball rolling with two wickets early on, nightwatchman Anil Kumble departing to Matthew Hoggard cheaply and Wasim Jaffer given a torrid time by Flintoff before the skipper sent him on his way.
Umpire Simon Taufel was in the thick of the action, giving both those batsmen out lbw, but also rejecting three other close shouts.
But as Dravid proved a model of self-denial, Tendulkar was more expansive, picking up ones and twos to put the pressure back on England and hitting James Anderson for a fine boundary.
At lunch India had reached 75-3 and with Tendulkar and Dravid apparently in for the long haul England looked destined for a tough afternoon session.
If that was how they felt, they were to be pleasantly surprised.
Flintoff's wicket from the third ball after the interval was the catalyst with India's 'Wall' - Dravid - finally breached.
A ball that seamed just enough to take the outside edge was gratefully grabbed by wicket-keeper Geraint Jones.
Operating from the other end, Udal also struck in his first over after lunch.
Tendulkar propped forward, the ball took inside edge and pad and Ian Bell leapt acrobatically to his left.
India next sent out Virender Sehwag, badly troubled by a back injury, and it was no surprise when he was trapped in front by James Anderson for a duck.
Wickets seven and eight were provided by Udal, the first after a comedy of errors involving Panesar and Mahendra Dhoni.
Dhoni hit one ball high to mid-off where Monty Panesar - who had bowled poorly before lunch - ducked out of the catch, bizarrely unsure whether he or the mid-on man, Anderson, should have caught it.
Three balls later, Dhoni gave Panesar the chance to make amends, and he duly obliged.
India were in freefall now. Harbhajan Singh slogged Udal to deep square leg, Yuvraj Singh edged Flintoff to third slip before last man Munaf Patel hit the single to bring up the India 100.
However, when Patel then tried to hit the wily Udal out of the ground, Hoggard set himself at deep square leg to take the catch which ended the match.
