news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics_2004/athletics/3599386.stmNew Olympic 1500m champion Hicham El Guerrouj and 10,000m gold medallist Kenenisa Bekele both eased into the final of the 5,000m. El Guerrouj showed no sign of tiredness after his 1500m triumph on Tuesday night and now has three days rest before Saturday night's final. Gold medal contenders Ali Saidi Sief and Eliud Kipchoge both looked good in qualifying from the second heat. But Britain's John Mayock went out after finishing 10th in the first heat. "It was obviously very tough," said Mayock. "Before the race, to have all those top guys in the first semi-final, I thought, `Oh no'. "I was slowest of the 18 in my heat going into it - the event has moved on now and there is no real room for a European athlete to be in these races."
