World champion Hicham El Guerrouj looked impressive as he qualified easily for the final of the 1500m.
The Moroccan, hunting an elusive Olympic gold, won his semi-final in fine style from Portugal's Rui Silva.
He was joined there by Britain's Michael East, who qualified from the first semi as a fastest loser after clocking 3 minutes 36.46 seconds.
East said: "I knew I was working quite hard. I thought I raced pretty well."
