news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics_2004/swimming/3582278.stmBritish Olympic officials will meet on Friday to discuss whether to continue their bid to win back James Goddard's bronze medal. Goddard finished fourth in the 200m backstroke but was briefly promoted to third when American winner Aaron Peirsol was disqualified. However, Peirsol was subsequently reinstated and a British protest was dismissed by swimming officials. Britain could now appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. A British Olympic Association spokesman said: "Chef de mission Simon Clegg will meet this afternoon with the Team GB lawyer and swimming team leader Craig Hunter to discuss the merits of the case and decide whether to take it further." For now Goddard, who was pipped in the final metres for third as Peirsol beat Austria's Markus Rogan to the gold medal, is left empty-handed.
