Michael Schumacher cruised to victory at the European Grand Prix as normal service was resumed in this season's Formula One World Championship.
EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX
1 M. Schumacher (Ferrari)
2 R. Barrichello (Ferrari)
3 J. Button (BAR)
4 J. Trulli (Renault)
5 F. Alonso (Renault)
6 G. Fisichella (Sauber)
7 M. Webber (Jaguar)
8 J. Montoya (Williams)
The German easily claimed his sixth win in seven races, to bounce back after crashing out at Monaco.
Schumacher's Ferrari team-mate Rubens Barrichello took second, with Briton Jenson Button third for BAR.
A late engine problem ended BAR driver Takuma Sato's race just after bumping Barrichello in a battle for second.
The Japanese driver had attempted an ambitious passing move, and needed to pit for a new nose cone after clipping the Brazilian.
Barrichello said: "I am sorry to say it was a bit amateurish for Sato to do that because he was not in a position to try and overtake. I took avoiding action."
Two laps later Sato was forced out of the race after mechanical trouble, ending his hopes of a first podium finish.
Race-winner Schumacher paid tribute to his team and their fuelling strategy after he romped away from from field.
He said: "We started a little bit lighter but if you see how much lighter we were it doesn't justify the gap we had in qualifying.
"Everything worked fantastically for us, I worked hard to get a gap and just drove it home safely."
Jarno Trulli, who won his first race in Monaco last time out, brought his Renault home in fourth place with team-mate Fernando Alonso fifth.
Giancarlo Fisichella was sixth for Sauber after starting in 18th place, while Mark Webber grabbed two points for Jaguar.
Juan Pablo Montoya was eighth for Williams after a miserable start for the BMW-powered team, with the Colombian colliding with team-mate Ralf Schumacher at the first corner.
The crash finished Schumacher's race, and the incident also ended Cristiano da Matta's day after his front wheel was run over by the German.
It was another terrible day for McLaren, with both Kimi Raikkonen and Briton David Coulthard retiring before the halfway stage with engine failures.
It was a bitter blow for Raikkonen, who was second until the 10th lap.
Coulthard had been making steady progress through the field after starting the race from the back of the grid but his car gave up after 26 laps.
The Mercedes-powered team have just five points with Raikkonen, last year's championship runner-up, languishing on just one point from two finishes.
