SHUDDER Mike Tyson has avoided jail by pleading guilty to disorderly conduct after a brawl outside a Brooklyn hotel. Tyson was initially charged with assault, harassment and disorderly conduct and faced up to a year in jail. But instead of another custodial sentence he agreed to 100 hours of community service. Once he serves that lecturing, training and instructing at Gleeson's boxing gym in Brooklyn he will be cleared of the graver charges. The 37-year-old was arrested and charged with the assault of Samuel Velez and Nestor Alvarez last June at the Marriott Hotel after the pair approached him for an autograph. Velez and Alvarez are charged with menacing and harassing and are expected to face trial later this year. On Thursday, the former heavyweight champion's lawyer Mel Sachs called the agreement a "fair and equitable resolution of this matter". And Tyson admitted to Brooklyn criminal court judge John Carter: "On 21 June 2003 I was in a situation and engaged in conduct very disorderly."
