Jimmy White produced a superb display to set up a semi-final showdown with Ronnie O'Sullivan after recording a 6-4 victory over Peter Ebdon. Both players contributed to a fine contest with White notching centuries in the first and fifth frames and Ebdon replying with one in the sixth. Ebdon edged 4-3 ahead but White claimed the next two to stand within one frame of the winning line. White then brought the house down as he sealed victory in the 10th frame. Jimmy White produced his finest display in a long time in the best match so far in the event. "It was a great match and there was some good stuff," said White. "It was a great result for me and it's a pity there are no ranking points. "But he played really well and if I had lost, I would have happily shaken his hand. The main thing is that I am is that I am competing and beginning to score well." Jimmy White also praised the crowd for their good behaviour. White is often just as put off by the boisterousness of his fans as his opponents can be. But the Whirlwind was delighted with the respect given to both players in a magnificent contest. "The crowd were great tonight. I think you could have shot a gun off against Peter's head and he wouldn't have noticed, because he is so focused."
