GB & Ireland 10-8 Europe Harrington/ Montgomerie Won 2&1 Jimenez/ Garrido Lawrie/Casey Lost 3&2 Jacobson/ Fasth Howell/ Westwood Lost 5&3 Cejka/ Jacquelin Poulter/Rose Won 2&1 Garcia/ Bjorn Great Britain and Ireland maintained their two-point lead against Europe going into the singles of the Seve Trophy after sharing Saturday's foursomes two matches each. Europe looked as though they had gained some vital momentum in the morning's greensomes after reducing the deficit to just two points, and they produced some spectacular golf in the foursomes in the afternoon. Alex Cejka and Raphael Jacquelin, in particular, were in rampant mood and made light work of beating the previously unbeaten partnership of David Howell and Lee Westwood with a 5 & 3 win. Moments later, Niclas Fasth put the finishing touches to a facile win with partner Fredrik Jacobson over Paul Lawrie and Paul Casey and at that point it looked as though the teams would be intriguingly poised at nine points all going into Sunday's ten singles matches. However, close friends Ian Poulter and Justin Rose dug deep to earn a deserved victory over Sergio Garcia and Thomas Bjorn by 2 & 1. Rose ensuring victory with a delightful long iron on the par 3, 16th hole that finished less than a foot away for a guaranteed birdie. In the top match, Padraig Harrington was in inspired mood and played the pivotal role in his 2&1 win with Colin Montgomerie over Miguel Angel Jimenez and PGA Champion Ignacio Garrido.
