Dwain Chambers' solicitor has told the BBC that reports the sprinter's B sample has tested positive for banned steroid THG are "premature".
There has been no official confirmation on the result of the second sample following an original positive test earlier this year.
And Graham Shear said he was "mystified" by reports of the result of the B test.
"We don't know and we have not been notified of any results," he told BBC Radio Five Live.
"I am more than a little mystified, this seems very speculative, premature and maybe unsafe.
"We have not been notified, not even a suggestion of intimation as to the outcome to the test.
"I'm extremely surprised by this development."
The European 100m champion first tested positive at a training camp in Germany on 1 August.
Official notification
His B sample was tested in Los Angeles on Monday and once UK Athletics has been given the result, probably on Friday, it will inform Chambers.
The test was carried out by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), at the University of California, which is accredited by the International Olympic Committee.
The IAAF's media director, Nick Davies, said: "The result will not be made public until UK Athletics has been informed and they themselves have contacted the athlete and others who need to know.
"We expect to send our letter notifying the result of the B sample to UKA tomorrow (Friday).
"It is then for them to release the necessary statement regarding the drugs test of Dwain Chambers."
If, like the A sample, the B test proves positive, Chambers faces a suspension of at least two years.
Chambers admits taking THG but claims he was unaware of the contents of the supplements he was ingesting.
A lengthy suspension would deny Chambers the chance to compete in the Athens Olympics next year.
Under British Olympic Association rules he would also be banned from all subsequent Olympics.
