Detectives from Scotland Yard's anti-terrorist branch are searching six properties in Birmingham. It follows the arrest on Thursday of a man suspected of terrorism, although details only emerged on Friday. The 33-year-old, who is being held under the Terrorism Act, is being held for questioning at an undisclosed police station in the West Midlands. Police have stressed that this is not linked to the arrest a 24-year-old al-Qaeda suspect in Gloucester. Separate investigation The premises being searched in Birmingham include three homes and three businesses. Officers had not yet recovered any weapons or explosives a spokesman for London's Metropolitan Police said. The separate investigation in Gloucester saw a 24-year-old man arrested on Thursday and a small quantity of explosives discovered. Further searches of addresses in Gloucester have also taken place. Sajid Badat, the man arrested in Gloucester is being questioned at Paddington Green Police Station in west London. A 39-year-old man arrested in Manchester on Thursday has been released from custody.
