Four men have been charged with the murders of teenagers Letisha Shakespeare and Charlene Ellis, who were shot dead outside a New Year's party in Birmingham. West Midlands Police said the men, aged 19, 22, 23 and 24, who all come from Birmingham, were due to appear at the city's magistrates' court on Thursday. All the men have also been charged with three counts of attempted murder in connection with the fatal shooting. College friends 17-year-old Letisha and Charlene, 18, were shot outside a party at a hairdressing salon in Aston in the early hours of 2 January. Charlene's twin sister Sophie and 17-year-old Cheryl Shaw were also injured in the incident in Birchfield Road. A police spokesman said on Thursday: "The four men are each charged with two murders and three attempted murders. "All four remain in police custody and will appear before Birmingham magistrates today." The mothers of the two teenagers have started a campaign against gun violence. Letisha's mother, Marcia, and Charlene's mother, Beverley, travelled to New York to see how the problem of gun crime is tackled there.
