;D Thousands of homes were left without electricity after a squirrel got into an electricity sub-station. About 4,000 homes in the Kidderminster and Bewdley areas of Worcestershire were affected by the power cut. The inquisitive creature short-circuited a transformer at the sub-station on Spencer Avenue in Bewdley just before 0900 GMT on Saturday. A spokesman for energy company Aquila, which manages the complex, said the animal died from an 11,000-volt shock. Aquila apologised to local customers for the disruption as it worked to restore supplies. Full service was finally restored just before 1100 GMT, when homes closest to the sub-station were reconnected.
