Prime Minister Tony Blair has admitted to a class of schoolchildren that he listens to The Darkness' latest album.
Mr Blair, who was visiting a London school, revealed his musical taste in fluent French in one of their classes.
He said that he had chosen the rock band out of his children's CD collection.
But he added that although he also listened to another rock band, the Foo Fighters, he was more of a U2 man.
Mr Blair's musical tastes are well-documented, with his choices for BBC Radio 4 programme Desert Island Discs including bands from the 1960s and 1970s, the Beatles and Free, as well as classical composer Claude Debussy.
He is also known to pick up a guitar when the occasion demands it, such as joining in with a jamming session while visiting a school.
But he declined to sing karaoke when recently asked to do so in a Chinese college, deferring to his wife Cherie's singing talents for Beatles hit When I'm Sixty-Four.
The Darkness' flamboyant style has seen the group become one of the year's biggest sensations, with their long hair and lycra stage suits paying tribute to several 1970s bands.
They have been tipped to be number one for Christmas 2003 with a song called (Christmas Time) Don't Let the Bells End, with the only act ahead of them in the odds being the eventual winner of TV's Pop Idol competition.
