Film director Roman Polanski is to appeal to the House of Lords after he was barred from giving video evidence in his libel case, a report said. He is suing Vanity Fair magazine in London - but may face arrest on US rape charges if he sets foot in the UK. He is taking the libel action over an article that appeared in 2002 regarding his first wife, Sharon Tate. Last week, the Court of Appeal ruled that Polanski could not give evidence via video link from his home in France. The Oscar-winning film-maker is now to appeal to the House of Lords, the Sunday Times newspaper reported. Murdered The libel action was due to start on Monday, but was put back to January after he was refused permission to give evidence by video. Polanski admitted unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in the United States in1977, but fled to France before he was sentenced. The charges are still outstanding. Polanski, 69, won this year's Oscar for best director for his World War II drama The Pianist. Sharon Tate was murdered by followers of Charles Manson in 1969.
