The cast of the movie turned out in force
The third movie in the Matrix trilogy, Matrix Revolutions, had its world première in Los Angeles on Monday.
Actor Keanu Reeves was joined by fellow cast members Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss at the newly opened Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The film will be released worldwide on 5 November and is poised to set new box office records.
The Matrix Reloaded, the second instalment in the trilogy, has taken more than $735m (£434m) worldwide.
Keanu Reeves said he had no idea how successful the trilogy would be.
"I really didn't have any expectations. I just had hope. You know I mean I felt I was performing in something I enjoyed and I hoped other people would as well," he told reporters.
"The film is fantastic. It's got an epic scope to it but also real heart to it. It's a very open film... a big action picture, drama, romance."
Matrix Revolutions concludes the epic war between man and machine, and forces the ultimate confrontation between Keanu Reeves' character, Neo and the rogue Agent Smith.
Hollywood actress Sharon Stone, a fan of the films, and Robert Downey Jr both also arrived to see the movie.
Reeves's co-star Jada Pinkett Smith, arrived with actor husband Will Smith, and posed for photos with Carrie-Anne Moss, who plays Trinity.
Matrix Revolutions will be the first digitally re-mastered major live action film to be released on the world's largest screens at Imax theatres at the same time as normal cinemas.
The co-ordinated worldwide release is to capitalise on the trilogy's popularity and ward off piracy, according to distributors Warner Brothers.
Pirate copies of The Matrix Reloaded were available on the internet less than two weeks after the film's release in May.
Premières for Matrix Revolutions will also be held in Sydney and in Tokyo.
